Critics willy-nilly compare two pillars of the gallery business – Leo Castelli and Larry Gagosian, whose influence on the modern art process is difficult to overestimate. The latter called the former a teacher and said that he understood much because he simply observed Castelli’s work. Some famous names, like Warhol and Twombly, the galleries share. But the Gagosian Gallery represents dozens of artists, including well-known and still working artists like Anish Kapoor, Jeff Koons and others, actively participating in world exhibitions and fairs. Gagosian now has eighteen representative offices in the United States, Europe and Asia, and a reputation as the world’s number one art dealer. He also had plans for Moscow, which were frustrated by the 2008 global crisis; at the height of the crisis, an vernissage was being held at the “Krasny Oktyabr” with the participation of many famous artists from the gallery pool and world show-business stars.
